The Glimpse Life is, for me and my sister Shannon, the attainment of a lifelong goal. As first generation Filipino Americans, we were given the unique opportunity to live out the American Dream our foremothers so desperately wanted for us. We have taken this opportunity and with clarity of vision have shaped it into the future that so much was sacrificed for. We have found a vehicle that will allow us to live our lives according to our own rules and empower our next generation to do the same. Like many other cultures, the women in our family serve as the matriarchs and the backbone of our clan. Even though this bears great responsibility in and of itself, we are also so much more. My sister and I were raised to believe that a woman not only ran the household and raised the children; she was also the moral, spiritual, and financial provider. This mindset has remained a central theme throughout our lives. It was reinforced through our childhood as we watched our mother raise four children at home while maintaining her role as breadwinner for the family. She thought it was ridiculous that a woman made less than a man for the same job and I think you can guess how she felt about glass ceilings. While she did not deny that these realities existed, she simply refused to accept that they applied to her. Instead she spent the next three decades willing her own reality into being; a reality which allowed her to be a fulltime mother as well as a successful businesswoman. She could only do this by leaving the safety of the corporate world and going into business for herself where she built real wealth for her children without having to sacrifice the time needed to raise us. My mother caught a glimpse of the life she wanted and lived it.
This work of love is our way of giving everyone a chance to catch a glimpse of the life they want and deserve and the means to make it happen.
